Geoffrey's academic background lies in the field of Business Management. He graduated from one of the UK's leading Business Schools, the Manchester Business School in July 2002, gaining a First Class Honours degree in International Management with German. As well as obtaining the highest possible degree classification upon graduation, he was awarded the course prize for every year in which he was in attendance at the Manchester Business School in recognition of his academic excellence.
In the course of his studies, he gained a comprehensive knowledge of the major Management disciplines, studying modules in: Corporate Finance, Financial Markets and Institutions, Industrial Economics, Managerial Economics, International Business, Quantitative Methods, Business Accounting, Work Psychology, Cross-Cultural Management, International Employment Policy and Practice, Service Management, Logistics and Environmental Management.
Always aware of the importance of languages in Business, Geoffrey studied German alongside his Management subjects throughout his university career. He is a fluent German speaker and specialised in German for Business. During a study year at the Social and Economic Sciences Department at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, he undertook many field trips to local firms, and was able to witness first hand the importance and numerous advantages of being able to communicate effectively in another language.
After leaving university, Geoffrey succesfully obtained his Certificate in English Language to Adults (CELTA) at the Manchester Academy of English. This course is validated by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) and has a well-earned reputation for academic excellence, being recognised by teaching institutions world-wide.
Geoffrey's enthusiasm for teaching English and for travelling led to his working in China. Whilst living in Guilin in South China, he worked for the South Korean multinational company, Daewoo. Here his principal tasks were to teach business English to professionals at the Daewoo bus company, with emphasis on improving their communicative fluency and teaching individuals the specific vocabulary and language they needed for their job.
In China Geoffrey was also employed by Linguaphone, a global language teaching company which has language schools in many major cities. In addition to teaching their Advanced Business English courses, he taught all four levels of their general English syllabus and organised many academic field trips for the students.
In the UK he has successfully taught the 'IELTS' syllabus and Business English to small groups and has enjoyed designing a general English course which aims to impart information and knowledge about British culture. |

After returning from his travels to China Geoffrey felt motivated to open his own language school in his hometown of Scarborough. He wanted to run a school based on high quality, individual and specialised language courses, where every student felt they were receiving the best possible attention for their own personal circumstances and goals.
In his free time Geoffrey likes to make the most of the stunning countryside that is on the doorstep. He enjoys walking along the beautiful coastline and exploring the local forests and moors. He is a keen theatregoer, often visiting the Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round in Scarborough, home to the world renowned playwright, Alan Ayckbourn.
A major interest in his life is the practice of T'ai Chi and reading about the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoism and associated health arts. He finds T'ai Chi a great way of coping with the stresses and tensions of modern day life!
